The incoming Guild President Ms. Nakayiza Grace called upon her cabinet to cooperate with her to raise ARU to greater horizon. She promised to showcase exemplary leadership and academic excellence during her term of office. She point out some of the core areas of interest in her regime which included but not limited to setting up emergency fund for students, generating income for the students guild through setting up projects and most importantly upholding the constitution of the ARU Guild body.
In his remarks the Chief Guest Dr. Mwalimu Musheshe said to the outgoing cabinet to remain consistent with the leadership potential exhibited during its term of office.
Once you are in leadership you don’t keep changing. Conduct yourselves with dignity. You have now become opinion leaders.
He also challenged students to put their talents to work. He advised them not to always be on the receiving end and for that matter therefore, he advised them to engage in research, innovation and creativity. He cautioned them to use the internet infrastructure in place for productive work.
He applauded the students for successfully and peacefully going through the democratic process of electing their leaders.
To the incoming Guild cabinet, Mwalimu advised the cabinet to lead with modesty and that the new leaders should be a living example of what the ARU students should be. He said that the cabinet should at all times maintain a good working relationship with the university administration as this is key to creating the desired aspirations of the students. He assured the students body full support from administration.
Present at the function was the Kagadi District Local Government Chairperson Hon. Byaruhanga Stephen, who advised the Guild Cabinet to be patient enough with the students. “Be smart and approachable”. Says Stephen.
He encouraged the incoming cabinet to adopt the idea of networking as this is key to building strong institutions.
You are now the Public Relations Officers of ARU, URDT and Kagadi
He called upon students to interest themselves in both local and national politics because ARU and URDT train great leaders examples of whom include himself (Hon. Byaruhanga Stepen), the Buyaga East Member of Parliament Hon. Musana Erick among others.
