African Rural University joined other institutions in the peace marathon and walk under the theme “TOGETHER FOR PEACE: RESPECT, SAFETY AND DIGNITY FOR ALL“. The marathon marked the beginning of the peace week which will run from 16th September 2017 to 21st September 2017.  There were 2 categories of participants; those who were running (click here to view the map) for peace and those who were walking for peace.

The overall goal of the peace week activities is to ensure Peace, Safety and Dignity for children and women in respect to the main road construction projects in the region. The roads in focus include; Kabyoya – Kagadi – Kyenjojo Road and Mubende – Kakumiro – Kibaale – Kagadi Roads.

Every member who participated in the run/walk paid a registration fee of 3,oo0 for primary pupils, 5,000 for students in secondary and higher institutions of running, 10,000 for working class and community members, and 50,000 for peace walkers.The money raised in the peace walk and marathon will be used to  support girls and women through skills training in entrepreneurship and making reusable pads to raise their socio – economic status in relation to the main road construction projects in Bunyoro Region.

Other activities for the day include; HIVAIDS Counselling and testing, blood donation.

Upcoming events  for the peace week include

  •  The Children Peace Exposé and community peace day Climax event scheduled for 20th September 2017 at Pacwa playground, Pacwa Sub County along Hoima-Kyenjojo Road.
  • Sports for Peace; football competitions climaxing on 20th at Pacwa play ground
  • Peace vigil –from 15th -22nd September 2017 (in places of worship)
