African Rural University (ARU) this week welcomed a delegation from Bunyoro University for a four-day benchmarking visit aimed at learning more about ARU’s transformative education model built on the Visionary Approach.
The visiting team—Grace B. Kyomuhendo, Tumusiime Stephen, and Elisha Obella—began their learning journey with a field visit to Kabasenkede Subcounty. Guided by ARU’s Community Engagement team led by Mr. John Tusiime, the delegation experienced firsthand how the university integrates learning with grassroots community engagement.
During the visit, the delegation interacted with local communities and observed how ARU works collaboratively with rural populations to address development challenges, nurture local leadership, and promote sustainable transformation. This practical exposure offered valuable insights into how academic institutions can partner effectively with communities to drive meaningful change.
The knowledge and experiences gained during the benchmarking visit are expected to support Bunyoro University in shaping its academic programs and strengthening strategies for community engagement as the institution continues to grow.
Bunyoro University was officially launched in 2024 by Yoweri Museveni and is currently led by Prof. Samuel Kyamanywa, who also serves as Chairperson of the ARU Council. The collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two institutions highlight a shared commitment to advancing education that responds to the needs and aspirations of communities in Uganda and beyond.
