Undergraduate

Our undergraduate courses combine theory & practice to prepare students for real-world rural transformation.

Bachelor of Rural Development (BRD)

The Bachelor of Rural Development (BRD) is a four-year degree program accredited by Uganda’s National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). It is structured to provide both academic knowledge and practical experience in rural development. The course includes three years of classroom instruction divided into two semesters of 17 weeks each, followed by a year of field practice. The curriculum emphasizes a balance between theory and application, with 60% of the content delivered through lectures and 40% through hands-on fieldwork. This program aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to address development challenges in rural communities effectively.

Admission into the BRD program is open through three entry schemes: candidates with a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) and at least two principal passes in either Arts or Science subjects obtained at the same sitting; diploma holders in Science, Humanities, or Arts disciplines from recognized institutions; and individuals who have passed the Mature Age Examinations as administered by the NCHE. The program prepares graduates for careers in community development, policy planning, and rural project management, with a strong focus on sustainability and participatory approaches.

Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Agriculture (BSSA)

The Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Agriculture (BSSA) is designed for students passionate about agriculture, sustainability, and food systems. This degree provides a comprehensive education in sustainable farming practices, crop production, soil science, animal husbandry, and agroecology. In addition to core agricultural courses, students are introduced to essential scientific disciplines such as statistics and microbiology, giving them the analytical tools needed for modern, evidence-based agricultural work. The program prepares students to understand and implement practices that support long-term agricultural productivity while preserving environmental health.

Graduates of the BSSA program are well-equipped for employment in a wide range of sectors, including agricultural research institutions, environmental organizations, livestock companies, and government agencies. The program not only fosters practical skills in food production and farm management but also emphasizes critical thinking and innovation in solving agricultural challenges. With increasing demand for sustainable food systems, BSSA graduates are positioned to become leaders in transforming agriculture to meet the needs of growing populations while maintaining ecological balance.
