Position Overview
African Rural University is seeking highly qualified and motivated individuals for the positions
of Lecturer in Animal Production.
African Rural University (ARU) is a value-based, all-women University that creates a discipline
of professional Rural Transformation Specialists (RTS): – change makers and agents that work
within the African Development context.
Founded by the Uganda Rural Development and Training Program (URDT), with the mission
to create effective change agents within the African context. ARU education blends theory (60%)
and practical application (40%), engaging students in real-life community projects thus fostering
the direct link between academic learning and rural transformation. ARU Education model is from
problem solving to a visionary orientation. Besides the conventional lecturers, ARU has traditional
wisdom specialists who are professors without papers. These specialists serve as custodians of
traditional knowledge, skills, and technologies, with their primary role being to integrate
traditional wisdom and its associated technologies into the curriculum and teaching practices at
ARU.
The successful candidates will teach, conduct research, and engage in community outreach
activities related to the following course units:
Courses in Animal Production
1. Basic Farm Structures and Equipment
2. Principles of Animal Production
3. Farm Management and Production
4. Production and Management of Ruminants
5. Livestock Health and Nutrition
6. Pasture Production and Management
7. Principles of Farm Management
8. Aquaculture and Apiculture
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and deliver lectures for the specified courses.
• Develop and update course materials and syllabi.
• Conduct research in the relevant field and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• Supervise student projects, theses, and dissertations.
• Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.
• Engage in community outreach and contribute to the university’s mission of rural
transformation.
• Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and other academic
activities.
Qualifications
• Masters Level Lecturer: A Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Science,
or a related field. PhD candidates in relevant fields are encouraged to apply.
• PhD Level Lecturer: A PhD in Agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Science, or a related
field with a strong record of academic and research accomplishments.
• Prior teaching experience at the university level is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research and publish in reputable journals.
• Commitment to innovative teaching methods and interdisciplinary approaches.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
